Slot

In the world of computing, a slot refers to the relationship between an operation and its pipeline to execute it. The term is often associated with VLIW. Slots have many uses, and can be used for more than just a single purpose. For example, the term “executive pipeline” is frequently used in dynamic scheduling machines. In a game where the objective is to make the highest score, the slot may determine whether the game proceeds to the next round or not.

The word “slot” is a late 14c. French word, which refers to the hollow in the throat above the breastbone. The word’s origin is unclear, but it is also similar to the Old Norse word slod. The meaning “hole” first appears in the 1520s, but the word “slot machine” is not recorded until 1888. When the term “slot machine” was first used, it meant the hollow at the base of the throat above the breastbone.

The term slot was coined in 1747 and originally meant “to cut a hole or provide a slot in.” Later, the word was used to mean “drop a coin into a hole”. The term also has meanings such as “to take a position in a slot,” and “to fit something into a slot.” These definitions have evolved from earlier meanings of the word. But, what does a slot mean in hockey?
