Poker

During a poker game, a player chooses five cards from which to create a hand. The best five-card combination wins. These five cards are ranked Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10. There are also wild cards that can take any suit.

The pot is the aggregate of all bets made during a round. It is split equally amongst the players in case of a draw.

The showdown is when the cards are revealed. The winning player takes the pot. In some variant games, players can also take new cards from the top of the deck. In some games, players can use two hidden “hole” cards.

A poker hand is the combination of five cards, the best being the Straight Flush. The highest card is the card that breaks ties when more than one player has a hand with that card.

A pair of kings isn’t bad off the deal, but it’s not as good as a straight flush. Usually, the best hand is a pair of kings with a straight flush.

Poker is played with a group of people around a circular table. The dealer is the first player to begin. The dealer will deal cards one at a time. A standard pack of 52 cards is used, but players may choose to use more or less cards. Usually, the chips used are black, red, or green.

The card with the most significance is the high card. This card breaks ties when several players have a hand with the same card.
